Baker and Buchanan Baker (2008), in “Reclaiming nursing: making it personal,” describe a nursing approach based on the belief that clients can understand and respond to the difficulties they face in everyday life. This model supports genuine, person-centred mental health care by recognizing that “people find it difficult to live with themselves or the people and situations they encounter in everyday life. The challenge is to help them live through, if not beyond, such problems” (p. 12).
